Chick just brought home yesterday......not doing well!!!

Will do thefox. Thanks! Of the the chicks this had to happen to..it is my daughter(aged 8 ) favorite. Hopefully, the little chick will pull through.

She is doing great today! Yeaaaahhhhh!

She was ok when she got here(other than the slightly bad hair thing) . She just about popped out of the box when she arrived just like the others. Maybe, she was a little more stressed than the others? Or, like you said theFox, mabe she just had to be reminded to eat and drink.

Funny she got better right after I posted yesterday.

I still put a little more (about a tablespoon) of sugar in their water for good measure. She is now running and socializing with all the others.

No more sugar in the water as it can cause other issues, it is fine for just a little while to get them started.

Glad the chick came around.

My chick seems to be doing a little better. I covered the pine chips with papertowels and sprinkled the chick feed on the floor for her. I also put the sugar in the water. She didn't seem very interested. I also decided to "wash" the vent with a little warm water (even though it wasn't dirty) to stimulate the digestive system (works for rescued wild bunnies

). Within about 15 minutes, she had a bowel movement. Then, I started putting her beak in the water every couple hours and she would drink when I did that, but then lay back down and not move until i came back. By the end of the day, she was caught eating some food!!! I kept encouraging her fluids. Yesterday morning she started standing up on her own again! Now, she even tries to run away from me when I try to pick her up! She is still very weak, but getting ever so stronger.

When should I put her back in with the others? Should I keep her in the "infirmary" a little longer to keep her from being trampled by the others? Or would having the "company" help her improve more?

Give her another day, in the meantime if there is another chick that is a bit more easy going than the rest you could let the two of them become buddies.

When I have one bird in hospital I try to find a buddy for her. You just have to know your birds in order to pair them up.
