Chick just hatched

[Chocolate Silkie Queen]

I just had a chick hatch and it has a weird white thing on it and I’m not sure if maybe it’s the umbilical cord or if it’s something different. Seems to be healthy and is currently drying off as I wait for the others to finish hatching. I’m honestly shocked these are hatching as day 21 should be Friday and they started peeping last night!

I know the pictures aren’t great and I can get more once it’s dry. This is a Cinnamon Queen silkie mix I believe it’s my Chocolate Satin Silkie that’s the dad but as it’s drying it looks blue so maybe my blue silkie was actually successful!

Congrats! Yes, they'll clean up as they dry off and become fluffy.

I hatch a lot of silkies and do a 5-day lockdown instead of 3 just because sometimes there's early birds. Day 18 was my soonest one time.

Oh good!! I’ve never had them hatch early I’ve had them hatch late I had two hatch early. One just hatched today and looks like another one will hatch today as well. I’m very confused as to why these are all hatching out black and white.
