Hey everyone! I know I haven't posted an introduction, and I apologize. My name is Megan and I'm a chicken lover and have been for years now.
I was recently given 8 RIR chicks (about 3 weeks ago) and one came to me with what appeared to be a splayed leg. The poor thing also has curled toes.
I made a hobble and a foot brace, but both seem to be having no effect on her. I kept the hobble on for a long time, but it wasn't even showing the slightest bit of improvement, so I took it off. I tried to leave the foot brace off, but she couldn't walk at all without it, so I leave that on.
Upon further inspection of her leg, I noticed that the joint and thigh was slightly deformed, so I'm guessing that's why the hobble wasn't helping. I honestly don't think there's any saving that leg.
A couple days ago, my sister and I made a sling for her so that it was easier for her to eat and so she wouldn't have to stumble and fall in her poop so much. Well, I decided to take her out of the sling today and now she's having a hard time walking on her good leg!! I know it's because she was in the sling for a couple days, but now I feel like the biggest jerk! She's only been out of it for like 30 minutes, so I'm hoping she'll straighten up and not have issues with her good leg after a couple hours.
This poor little thing is having the worst time. She can't win and I feel completely useless. My sister and I have done everything we can, but have no idea what else to do.
If anyone has any advice, it would be highly appreciated!! :O)
