Chick Math, Again!!!!!

I have:

6 hens from last year
12 pullets
2 cockerels to replace my roo I lost
6 baby cockerels just incase the 2 cockerels don't meet my standards
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
equals 26 ( I told my husband I wouldn't have more than 16 and only 1 roo)

Oh, how do you count other poultry in chicken math? I have two chirping turkey eggs in my bator.

Let's see:

Wanted 12 chickens:

Went to a chicken swap, got 2 Button Quail.
Ordered chicken on-line with a friend to split the shipment. Minimum order was 25 plus they added two = 27.
Couldn't get EE pullets at the time.

Wanted 6 Guineas. Ordered 8 plus two EE pullets.

Lost one chick from the big shipment. So,

12 = 2+27-12-1+8+2

Thank goodness everything expanded prior to us buying a 8-10 count chicken coop. We now have
a chicken "house" with an outside run. It's all designed to be "expandable". holy molly

OK tell me if I have the mania! LOL I have never had chickens before and have started with 4 chicks this year. Had to talk the DH into four. I was good and only got four. 2 SLW and 2 GLW. So far staying with normal math. LOL OK DH has decided that the chickens are pretty neat and thinks that having ones that lay green eggs and blue eggs would be pretty cool. (He is getting chicken fever I think LOL) So now I am thinking about getting some Ameracauna's and EE's next year. (He doesn't know it yet but I am sure I can talk him into it!

) So I have found a breeder that ships Ameracauna chicks but the smallest order is 25. Now in our neighborhood we can only have 4 large livestock animals per acre. We have three acres so that would be 12 animal units. Horses and cows count as one each. I have five horses so I am down to 7 "animal" units. Chickens are 5 per animal unit. So I can get away with the 25 chicks since that would be 5 more "animal units" plus the four that I have (can sneak in at least one EE to make up the next group of 5) and that leaves me with 5 more to go till I fill my 12 animal units. Lucky for me my three dogs don't count!

Oh man, dsqard, if you are anywhere near me, I would be glad to take some pure Ameraucana chicks out of that order of 25! Maybe only TWO, but that would decrease your numbers a couple. Literally.

Yolo County has a similar "Animal Density Points" method of figuring things out. But chickens are only 1 point apiece, AND "sexually immature offspring" do not count at all. As long as none of my recent purchases ever mature, I'm okay!

Actually gryeyes I will probably sell some of those 25 off. First off, it is straight run so I know I won't need all of the roos that come and secondly, want to leave some room for possibly hatching out some eggs later on. LOL Yup got the fever for sure!
