I have a 3-4 week old barred rock (1 of 10) which has her comb completely gone. Not sure if has always been that way or not. They are alone in the brooder and none seem to bothering her. I think it just never grew. Well she be ok? Does this happen sometimes or is she a freak? :). I know the comb is to help regulate temps. Well she be ok or is this some thing that is going to bother her for life?

My barred rocks, 5 week old, don't have much of a comb yet either, I will try to take a pic in the morning. Can you tell there has been an issue? Can you see blood? We need more information...

She likely will grow a comb eventually...5 weeks is young yet. Even if she for whatever reason does not she will function fine. There is a breed of chicken called Breda Fowl that are combless naturally and single combed game breeds like old english, modern, and american game are dubbed (surgical removal of the comb) for show.

No, no blood. Does not look like a wound at all. Just nothing. we have the 2 barred rocks and the other has her comb coming in. the other chicks are different breeds and have combs. she is the odd one out. maybe just a late bloomer.
