Hello, I have a baby chick that is mouth breathing. He stretches his beak open wide sometimes and shakes his head every now and then. He eats and drinks small amounts and does not seem to be thriving as all the other chicks are. Chicks were purchased on April 6th, hatch date was 3rd. I noticed this chick mouth breathing the very next morning after purchasing them. The chick has a few dried down feathers stuck together on neck and one wing. Also, red mark on top of beak near nostrils. He looked like he may have had a little trouble with hatching out of egg due to low humidity the way some of his downy feathers looked. Anyway, he is still hanging in there since April 6th, but continues to mouth breath. All I have in the way of antibiotics at present is Duramycin-10 (teracycline). He peeps when he is separated from the rest of the flock. I was wondering if it is okay to treat the entire flock with antibiotic mixed in with their water - even if the others seem fine. They are all eating the medicated chick starter and all other chicks are happy and healthy.
