My chicks are now 4 days old. One of the Rhode Island Reds is clearly smaller than all the others now, but she never opens her eyes. She will eat and drink when presented with the food and water, but it seems like she can never find "the group" or the food and water. Watching for a long time, she never opens her eyes. However, I can open her lids (they are not "stuck") and there are eyes underneath. Any suggestions?

Hello

We had a BCM chick a few months back that wouldn't open it's eyes... and they weren't stuck closed either. Still, I put a drop of contact rewetting solution (Visine brand) on each eye and within a few minutes she was running around the brooder like the rest, with both eyes wide open. Might be worth a try for you too.

No they aren't scratched up or red at all. I can certainly try some rewetting solution. I'm concerned primarily because she is obviously not keeping up with eating and drinking. Thanks for these and any more insights.

We uses Sustane on her eyes and now they are open like all the others. Good call. So glad we got some help here!
