Yeah im using the momma heat pad brooder and its up on level 6 and they are chirping happily while under it.. its just when they come out after theyve had a drink they scream like a car alarm until i nudge them back under or they go back themselves. Its just when the chirps become slightly piercing that i get concernedChicks can be very noise with all that chirping, are you using a heat lamp?
I converted to a MHP/heating pad after reading @Blooie's article ... Huge difference with the chicks noise level and over all development IMO.

Yeah its got an adjustable shutoff, and it was about 90° on the floor and they snuggle against it freely and are super happy inside. They got stuck on their feeder and was cheeping loudly trying to huddle under eachother, and i lightly nudged them off and they went back under the heat. It is my first day so im sure they will get the hang of it but they can't be that dumb can they? That's normal ... They find their way back, make sure it doesn't get too hot. You say you have it set on #6, does yours have an automatic shut off? The one I use has 3 setting (H M L) with no shut off, set on L ... They come and go themselves, after about a week or two they end up on top.
Thank you, they seemed to calm a lot after finding the food (despite me dipping beaks in it). They got stuck on it though after hopping up on it and needed scooting back under the heater. Now that they know they seem very contented, lots of sweet chirping with occasional trills. Once in a while theres just silence when all 3 fall asleepThey tend to be much noisier during their first few days, usually when they’re confused and cant locate a source of heat or get stuck somewhere. And it’s a good thing too, because you’ll go and check on them! they’ll quieten down when they settle into your brooding set up![]()
