I got 6 silkie chicks from Tractor Supply 3 days ago, they were all fine when I got them. However now one of them is acting weird, he's not eating or drinking because all he does is lay down all day. I'm not sure if he's sick or what. All the other chicks are active and eating/drinking. I really love all these chicks and I'm worried about him! Please help :(

Do you have any chick boost supplements for their water? Does the chick know where the water and food are? Dip his beak into the water and help him. Hopefully he is just a little sleepy.

Yeah he knows where food and water is. He just started acting like this today, the other few days he was perfectly normal. I have electrolyte powder in their water and I alternate it with the probiotic powder once they finish it. However they haven't finished their first batch yet so they haven't had the probiotic stuff yet. He's just been lathargic all day and I'm worried he won't make it.

Not sure why your giving so many things in their water..?
All Chicks need is fresh water and Chick starter...I use medicated starter.....Possibly it has pasty butt?....Got cold?.....Or it just won't thrive?.....The first week is hard on Chicks..:(

Best wishes....

Cheers!

What are the symptoms of pasty butt? And I know he's warm enough because all of the other chicks are fine.

Electrolytes are for initial treatment of birds suffering heat or stress issues. Not for use all the time. If you wait till they finish it, with only 6 birds, that water is sitting in a heated brooder (assuming you are using a heating pad) for longer than 24 hours. The sugar in it will cause bacterial bloom, which could make your chicks sick, and kill them. The probiotic is not such an issue, but certainly is not needed for very long. Once their guts are populated with those bacteria, the probiotic has served it's purpose. What is the temp in the brooder under the heat source, and what is it away from the heat source? It's super important that the chicks be able to get away from the heat, ideally the temp should be 20* cooler at the cooler end of the brooder. In a heat lamp, plastic tote, or even cardboard box that is often not possible.

Poultry Nutri Drench, is IMO the best product available, and aside from an initial treatment with home made electrolytes, a plug of sod, and introducing them to fermented feed, that is all I use. I also use a heating pad brooder, brood them in my cool garage to start, and move them outside as soon as they are reliably using their heating pad.

I use a heat lamp not heating pad. I can change water to the probiotic? Will that help? I'm just wondering why it's affecting just one chick and not the others if that is the problem.

I came home today to find him unable to keep his balance. He falls when he tries to walk. What do you mean some don't thrive? Is that common for chicks? I attached some photos. It was originally a video but I wasn't able to upload it. He fell to the side and had trouble standing back up right.
