I know that a chick can go for 3 days without eating but this one just seems to be blind or something. It doesn't drink unless I stick its beak in the water. It just stands there and chirps. When the others which are a few days older move around the brooder it just stands there until it hears movement then follows them. It will stand right in the middle of the rest whiel they eat but it doesn't eat. I thought it was a normal thing they all did was to peck at the ground. This one just stands there. It doesn't appear to be loosing weight, I keep feeling tosee if I can feel any bones but it seems to be fine. Normally when I go in the room and near the brooder they all run to the other side. this one just stands there. I put my hand in front of its face and moved it around and no response until I touched it. It will let me hold it without all the movement like the others too.
I really think it's blind. It has eyes and the lids close but they eyes have color not all white. It hatched on the first of June. Today is day 3. But i'm worried it will die. It seems to be fine, not weak or anything but it's not eating. It's so cute too. Looks just like a chipmunk without the tail. Just adorable. It is a mixture of a Silver Laced Wydonette hen and a RIR roo. I have its sibling from the same mother but the father is a Domonique. Looks completely different.
It hatched during the night and was near the fan and part of the shell dried out on its back and it couldn't get out. So I helped it along and got it out. It seemed to be very tired after the ordeal. After 1 day I had to rub the sticky stuff off of it so it would fluff up because the sticky stuff normally dries up and flakes off on its own. I put it back in the bator and the next day I put it in with the others that are a little older.
Anybody have any advice for a possibly blind chick.
