this chick is 6 weeks old and i have 8 others the same age. i noticed a wound on her tail area on both sides. it was bleeding so i separated her and brought her in for the night since the other chicks were too curious with the wound and pecking at it. we had had their glass food jar break so we thought maybe that. it was pretty bloody on both sides so i couldn’t quite see what was happening plus my dad handled it since i’m not a fan of blood. looked like some feathers had been cut possibly pulled out i’m not quite sure. she’s all healed now but i’ve noticed a lot of pin feathers around her neck shoulders and chest. she’s pretty shy but so are her two sisters the same breed but i’ve been trying to help her break the little white casing around the feathers after a week of her not doing it herself. she was only seperate overnight and then she was seperate by wire for two days but could still see the others and had one with her. since then she’s been with everyone no seperation and no issues with the wound but just wondering is there a way to teach her to preen these feathers or should i just handle her a lot and do it myself? she’s also a bit smaller but every batch of chicks has a runt so that’s not super concerning to me.
edit: just noticed this chicks wattle is a more developed than the others who don’t have any so is she possibly a rooster and would that have something to do with this?
