Chick picking itself raw

I like the idea of using an old oven rack to divide the cages - -- - -next time I see an oven being thrown out - - - I'll have to stop in recycle the rack for them !

I'd guess that the other chicks picked at her first and the wounds caused her to pick at herself to clean up. It's one of those chicken mysteries as to why they sometimes do that, chickens do have a cannibalistic gene in the "wood pile" so to speak.
 
Thank you for all the wonderful ideas! So far I have her separated in the 54 gal tote with another chick.... the other chick didnt attack her or even notice her big purple bluekote butt. I am going to probably have to find a way to separate the brooder though as you all have suggested because the tote just wont do. Its not going to keep them in there for 2-3 weeks until she heals.

I will also make them some boiled egg yolk. Do they need grit with that?
