Chick pipping on side of shell not air cell

This is the first two hours of day 22 in a classroom hatch. Was looking through photos from today and realized that this white egg in front is pipped way below the air cell. It appears that the spot is still covered in membrane as there is no spot to show it has broke through. Can this little guy hatch ok all the way on the side? I have to leave it til morning when I go back in, but if it looks the same should I poke a small hole through the membrane? Asking now so I can prepare if necessary.

It’s normal for the chick to have pipped there, the chick should be able to break the membrane itself but check tomorrow and if it didn’t I would wait a while, and if it still doesn’t it should be ok to poke a small hole in the mebrane. Just be careful not to poke the chick.

Ok thanks! All the others poked in or on the air cell lines we drew so I was a little worried!

Interesting. All 9 that hatched pipped right on the air cell lines we drew. Except this little guy. The other pip (can’t see it in thr pic), is also right next to the line. Humidity seems good since the others hatched well.

Update this morning. Beak is out of hole but chick is not moving. There was another crack about half an inch away. Pics of what I see. Please advise if I should peel shell away or something else?

I decided to check it at 1pm lunch. It did not make it. It was completely dried out.

No not really...the air cells draw down way more than this on hatch day...actual a day before hatch day.
