Hello- My four week old Americauna chick had some poop that had a small amount of blood in it- not a lot, but I noticed it. Is this something to be alarmed about? I am new to chick behavior. Thank you!

I would get some Corid at your feed store, cattle medicines, and think about treating for possible coccidiosis just in case. Dosage is 2 tsp of the liquid or 1.5 tsp of the powder per gallon of water for 5-7 days. Change it daily, and treat all chicks at once. Symptoms of coccidiosis are lethargy or sleep chicks, not eating, standing hunched, or watery poops or sometimes blood.

Thank you- I am probably being overly worried- but I don’t want any of the chicks to get sick. I will do the Corid in their water.
Can ducks also have the Corid?
Thank you!!

Yes ducks can have Corid, but they can be messy. You want your chicks to have dry and clean bedding since moisture and warm temps can make coccidiosis more prevalent.

No- I am not using hemp. But out of curiosity- what would it do?
I've had blood in stool for two batches of very young chicks (ie. too young to go outside and get coccidiosis). But both started shortly after I switched them to hemp from puppy pads. So I'll keep checking to see if anyone else has had a similar coincidence!

BTW, I did treat with Corid, both times. Just to be safe.
