Chick popped at wrong end

I have a chick that pipped at wrong end but I can see it’s tooth and it’s breathing will it be able to get out ok. How long do you leave them alone before you help. I have the humidity up. It must have pipped early this morn while I was sleeping

sometimes chicks pip at the wrong end but it usually is not a problem unless the chick really cannot rotate to get out of the egg. you never want to try to assist a chick out of it's egg until it's been at least 20 hours since it pipped and you really see no signs that the chick's position has changed any. many times, chicks will take 24+ hours to completely get out of the egg, however, it depends on the size of the egg, chick, conditions in the incubator, or conditions under the mother hen. you say you have the humidity up, which is good to assist the chick with getting out. best of luck with your chick and i hope this helps some!!

If it's breathing it should be fine. I would wait a while til I helped it.

Chicks usually take a few hours to proceed from internal pip to pipping through the shell, so, since this one skipped the internal pip part, you can add a few hours to the wait before you help it. I'd personally wait at least 20+ hours before checking to see if it needs assisting, but 24 hours would be better.

If you hear it chirping, it's probably fine. I had 2 that took almost 36 hours from first pip to final zip. Keep the humidity above 65% (don't open the incubator). If the external pip has gotten turned facing down instead of up, you could maybe carefully turn the incubator ever so gently - without opening it or spilling the water reservoir - to flip over the egg. (This is what I did when one of the hatch mates had kicked the egg over, to be sure the baby could breathe through the hole she'd made.)

I have had chicks pip the pointy end of the shell. So far no complications. They hatched out fine. I just had one last week that had pipped the pointy end and hatched out ok. I would wait for 24 hours then proceed carefully to pick the shell around the pip and if you see any blood, stop.

Still waiting it’s still breathing with beak out. My other egg cracked it’s shell earlier like 3 o’clock nothing since then. Last weekend I had 2 others hatch. Took 11 and 12 hours. The reason I was concerned for this chick today was also because it’s air sac was small then it pipped at the wrong end. Well hopefully by morning it will hatch. I’m not sure when it pipped in the early morning today I have to get up at 5 am for work. Hopefully I’ll have a chick in the am
