chick question

Posted this in "Emergencies" and haven't had much luck.... thought I would try here.

I have 2 BO chicks about 1 week old. One isn't growing at all. She still looks like a tiny pingpong ball with fuzz ... except for her wing feathers coming in are kind of big. The other BO is at least 2x the size of the little one. Also, little one is not peeping / cheeping.... she just barely "whispers" . She stands on her own but isn't really active... never has been, but she just seems so tired all the time.

she is in a box with the other BO and 2 2wk old JGs, and in a bathroom with another box with 5 , 3-4wks old chicks.... so that is why I haven't noticed when she stopped cheeping. They are not under a light because it stays over 80 in that room and they are never piled up or acting cold - even sleeping. She pecks at boiled egg and the feeder... she must be getting something, since Ihave had her a week.

Help???

I really don't know what could be wrong with her but mine don't make much noise unless they're unhappy about something. She could have something wrong with her from the start that you can not do anything for too some babies just fail to thrive. You can give her baby vitamins, sugar water and eggs and hope she perks up. It just doesn't seem like you have done anything wrong. Good luck and I hope she makes it for you.

Thanks. for the reply and encouragement.. what kind of baby vitamins? (sorry, newbie)

Also... she has peeped in the past, but now she just moves her mouth and it is just a tiny "whisper" of a sound.

What does gape worm look like? wouldn't all of them have it?

liquid childs but you probably don't have any hanging out at your house.....see if she will drink some water with sugar in it or molasses enough to make it sweet like I said she just might not make it so try to keep her comfy and hope for the best. I hope she makes it!

OH! ETA - should I seperate her from the others? They don't peck at her, but they do step on her if they get excited or scared?

thanks.... I hope the others are ok as well. I don't know though, because she seemed ok until today, and then tonight she is gone.

Im so sorry about this.

Sometimes nature just overcomes nurture and it just is heartbreaking. I'm sure there wasnt a whole lot you could do that you didnt.........
