When I got home from work today my sons told me about the prison break -- Chipotle, a 3-week-old California White, managed to fly past my 14yo while he was checking on them and trying to see if they've figured out the new feeder and waterer.
She went through the new electric net (not charged), as if it wasn't there* and darted under a shed.
The 20yo was enlisted for help and they had to chase her all over the yard -- in part because the 20yo was afraid to wield the butterfly net too aggressively lest he hurt her. Finally, she ran under a different shed with a higher clearance and was cornered in the hollow part of the concrete stairs.
She is showing no ill effects from her adventure despite all the chasing and running in the heat.
I've known from her first few days that this one is going to be trouble!
*We anticipated this. Attaching plastic garden net to the inside of the electric net has failed -- requiring an unacceptable number of zip-ties for my husband's comfort. I'm doing to use some 2-foot T-posts we have to put an inner corral of plastic net inside the electric until they're big enough for the poultry net to hold them. (I wouldn't be surprised if Chipotle flies out).
