Chick Rumor

This was true for us. I have a mixed flock, they started laying in the fall. I didn't supplement with light. Our egg production decreased to about 4-5 eggs/day from my 12 girls but we got eggs all winter. I have added more chicks this spring because I know a molt is coming at some point and I want to have eggs continuously.

So if mine start laying in October (approx, they are "due" June 14 from MPC) they have a better chance of laying more over the winter? I live in Georgia. Interesting. We don't need a ton of eggs; just getting 4 pullets for family egg eating and fun.

They more than likely won't be old enough to start laying in October....probably not until closer to December or later.

Last September my hens started laying. I had a timer on the lights to turn on around 7 and turn off around 9 at night. I averaged about 15 eggs a day out of 26 hens. It all depends on the breed of chickens. I have heavy breed and most of them are good winter layers.
