Chick runs away from me!!

I adopted a chick who was already older and she’s absolutely terrified of being picked up but she isn’t terrified of me. She’ll run away and cry if she sees me walking towards her but the moment I pick her up she’s fine and wants to be pet and hugged. I’m so confused but I don’t want her to grow up to be afraid of me. She’s already maybe 2 months old and I pick her up everyday and she’s still terrified! Any advice? I want to tame her out before she hits puberty so I don’t have a scared chicken who I can’t handle and can’t put to bed.

They tend to calm down when they begin laying in my experience.

I've just got some point of lay hens, about 9 months old. They are very nervous of me. But I've been picking them up ans cuddling them a few times a day and their squarks as less "help I'm getting murdered" to more of a "ahh I'm not sure what's happening" so I'm hoping this is progress. Do you think they're too old to train into lap chicks?
