The chicks were out, running around just like the past three days when suddenly out of no where my female barred rock just stopped and sat! Almost as if she were to fall asleep mid run. She would kind of walk, except she wouldnt pick herself up completely almost dragging her tummy on the floor. They definitely werent cold, and were not injured by anyone or anything. She began peeping and ended up falling asleep. It seems like her right leg is really weak, as she squats down and leans more on that side. She is a bit more up and about, but still with the leg, she is not as active as before. She is pooping normally, i know she gave me a handful while i was inspecting her! My kids and i are extremely attached to our chicks, we hatched them from eggs just 5 days ago! Please help, this is our first time having chickens! Thanks everyone in advance!

I'm afraid you didn't get an answer because no one knows. She could have an injury you're not aware of, as from jumping off a roost, or running into something, or from a fight. Check for bumblefoot (a scab or wound on the bottom of the foot.) They can get problems in the hip or knee without an injury, just as people can. Perhaps if you isolate her for the rest for a day or two, she will either improve or it will become more evident what is going on. Good luck!

Could be a lot of things. Vitamin deficiency, Marek's Disease, injury.

If she's very young, it could just be normal chick behavior. Sometimes they do fall asleep out of no where. :)

How old is she?
