Tiny is standing up! She's not maintaining it for long, but both legs are working it seems. Perhaps she was just bruised. She's not yet walking around the crate, but she can stand and wobble for a bit. She also seems addicted to scrambled egg now.

Sad, isn't it, that I don't cook for myself, but I will for a chicken. Sigh. The things we do...

I really appreciate y'all talking me down. I get so neurotic when they are injured.

Oh Anne, I'm so sorry that this happened to your poor baby! Glad he/she is doing a little better. Hope the improvements continue.

By the way, do you remember, way back when, I did the very same thing to Maybelline? Thankfully she wasn't seriously hurt. I moved the hinges on that door the very same day. Now it opens out like a people door. I'm not sure if that's an option for you, the way that you have it set up.

I'll be thinking about you and poor little Tiny Tim.

I'm glad Tim is on the mend. Accidents happen sometimes despite all we do. But I just have to comment on the cooking. Being a widow I HATE cooking just for me. But the minute I think my birds or my dog needs something, there I am. My 80+ aunt is the same way. Cornbread, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal no problem as long as it is for them. Me a piece of toast or salad or something easy like that. Funny how attached we get to them! And wonderful too!

I did this very same thing to one of my polish last year. Door slipped out of my fingers and smacked her in the head. Then she went to sleep because it was night and I thought for sure I had killed her. I brought her into my house and the next day she was totally fine thank goodness. I love the move the hinges idea DUH why didn't I think of that. I'm going to take a look at the door and see if I can do that. I bet you there are a lot of people this has happened to. Hope your chick is ok.

I have a chick who was mauled at 2 weeks with similar story - she was wobbly for over a week. Lots of TLC and she is fine now at 4 weeks. It took her the week to really be able to stand and not be wobbly.

Yeah, tstoikes, I'm usually entirely too lazy to make an omelet for myself. A bowl of cereal will do it. But let one of the animals get hurt or sick and I'm whipping up this, that and the other!

Tuesday update-
Tiny went outside for a bit last night and wobbled around a bit, but mostly just sat in the sunshine. I took her back out tonight around 5pm-ish and let her mingle about. She was toddling about, but up and standing. I went back out at dusk fully intending to put her back in the baby coop with the others. I assumed she would already be tucked up in there with them all. Nope. She was walking the fence looking for me! When I went in and put my hand down she literally flung herself at me and nestled into my palm. Silly girl. She sat there making happy chick sounds, but clearly had no intention of sleeping in with the others. I caved and let her come back in the house. She is currently nestled down in her crate eating grapes. I think I may have created a monster.

I've been working late at the hospital and when it gets slow I run to check my e-mail and now I am slowing becoming addicted to this forum! Facebook, what's that?! I spend my free time on the chicken board, lol Anyway I read you're initial post again and I just realized that you said the door folds down from the top...sounds like she might hvae gotten a good clonk on the noggin, mabye that would explain the neurological symptoms on one side? Just a wild guess. I'm glad she's doing better! Thats so cute she's gotten attached to you! She has become your pet!

That has happened to me with chickens & sugar gliders! I got 2 sugar gliders in high school that were very sweet pets. Aparrently they multiply like bunnies though and in just a few years I had over twenty! I thought about selling some or even giving them away, but they are just so happy all together. They're sweet and tame but they all live and sleep together in one big enclosure I made for them several years ago. One day I came in and found one of the little girls with her leg caught in the door. She had been struggling so much that it had stripped her skin down to the tendon..ouch! I had to change her bandage once a day so I keep her in a little birdcage at my apt for like 3 weeks or so and as a result hse got a lot of one-on-one attention...soooo when it was time to reintroduce her to the others( at my parents house), it was really hard! She really didn't want to go:/ I felt really bad that I finally had to leave her, but I've got a parrot and cats and very little free time so I knew she would eventually be happier with them. Anyway I hope everything works out well with your baby!
