My oldest and favorite chick seems to have the sniffles. Its nose does not appear to be runny at all, but every once in a while it makes these stuffed up sneazy noises. His poop is orangeish brown. I don't want to have to cull this chick but I think I might have to. None of my other chicks seem to have this problem. Is there a medication that could help get rid of it? It just started over night I believe.

yes you can use tylosin or brand name tylan50 it works excellent for respiratory issues. I've been successful in my own flock treating with tylan50. you can get it and syringes at the feed store. do NOT worry that the bottle says for cattle and swine MANY poultry owners including myself successfully treat with tylan. the dose is as follows for chicks its one tenth of a cc given orally or in the back of neck for small birds its 1/4 cc for large birds its 1/2 cc small and large birds dose is given in the breast muscle for 5 days. the injection is given once daily. in a few days you should notice a significant improvement. treat the full five days. in my flock my small silkies were having some issues with sneezing and coughing I treated with the tylan50 and it fixed them right up. no more symptoms. I like using injectable because dose is more stable than with water soluble antibiotic. it also gets into the blood steam faster. I like to use a alcohol swab in the injection area of the breast as it parts the feathers and exposes the skin nicely. I hope this helps. and hope he gets better soon. tylan50 usually works very well for respiratory issues. I wish you the best. good luck.

Thank you! I'll try to find it. I was looki.g at some medications at the farm supply store and it said not to use with chickens that are going to lay eggs for consumption of humans. Will tylan50 effect the eggs in any way? They can't lay yet because they're too young but I'm not sure if it meant fight now or for the life of the chick. I don't want my future eggs to be poisoned or anything of that makes sense.

no the egg withdrawal period is one week past last dose. I was told this by my vet. in my own flock I did the recommended with draw period of 7 days then after that I ate the eggs. its fine to eat them after the withdraw time. hope this helps. best wishes

Thank you so much! This is my most social chick in the flock. It jumps on my hand or atm every time I put my arm in to maintain their brooder. As for the dosage, I do the tenth cc daily for five days or every five days? Again thank you.

you give one tenth of a cc for five days with the chick you can give it orally or in the back of neck. they are far too small to give it in the breast. most people prefer orally for small chicks. so give only one tenth of a cc once a day for five days. hope your chicks get better soon! best wishes
