In three days, I'll have some baby chicks hatch. I have a bag of Chick Starter Feed from Tractor Supply in the garage. The feed is about six months old. Is it okay to use, or should I buy a new bag?
If I should buy a new bag, is there anything that I can use the older bag for?

Check the bag for a date. It should at least have a mill date. If the mill date is close to when you bought it and the bag has sat completely sealed in dry conditions I'd probably use it but try to use it up quickly. If you don't have many chicks I'd probably throw some of it out to the other chickens so it goes by quicker. However your bag could actually be as much as a year old if it sat for awhile between when it was milled and when you got it. In that case I would not use it as the sole feed for anything. I'd probably still toss it out like scratch to the chickens, maybe mix it with fresher feed for the chicks, or just use it as wild bird feed. I would not rely on it to have all the vitamins and minerals still in balance for the chicks if it's any older than 6months.
