chick starter/grower feed

Thanks, I have thought about hulled sunflower seeds but wasn't sure if they were ok. As you can tell this is my first go around with chickens so I am paranoid about everything. I really love these funny birds..I could sit and watch them all day!!

The birds are a lot of fun. I have almost always had some birds around, and my interest in them has not waned. I still get a thrill from a batch of chicks.

Especially starting out, it is probably best to get the best feed that you have available to you locally. Somewhere were you can get fresh feed.
Follow the manufacturers directions, and they will be fine. The sunflower seed are a good treat because they cannot add the ideal amount of fat to the feed. It goes rancid fast.

The good thing about chickens is that they are resilient. They tolerate less than ideal better than many animals. Clean water, good feed, grit, shade, sunshine, fresh air, protection from the elements, and protection from predators. When they have this and are allowed to get out, eat some greens, exercise, etc. They are generally happy and healthy. Keeping it simple is better for you and them.

Online, you will find an extraordinary amount of "necessities". A lot of these does the keeper more good than the birds. Keep it simple and do the little tings right.

Thank you so much...I feel a lot better now. We just finished a coop with a 12X8 run and they seem to like it. I do let them out during the day after checking the sky for hawks. They are pretty smart, they seem to like being in the garden under plants. Sometimes I have a hard time seeing them. Thanks again for the info.
