okay....
I just read on another Thread that chicks should go from the Medicated food to Chick Starter.

When?
Why?

Can I NOT leave my chick on the medicated food until 20 wks of age and then just switch to the laying feed?

THANKS for everyone's help!

Here in western SD, it is impossible to find non-medicated chick feed.

Not only that, there is no chick starter available so I will have to feed the medicated feed until 20 weeks of age when I switch to the layer feed. It seems to be standard practice around here and these people have been doing it for ages. I don't have much of a choice so I just have to go with it.

THANK YOU for the reply ....

I wanted to make sure that feeding the medicated feed for the full 20 wks or so wasn't harmful (over-medicating?)

You won't over medicate with the feed, but you will have healthy chickens. Once they start laying put them on lay feed. The pellets are not as watseful as crumbles.
