It was a nice sunny day so I let my chicks go out in a little chicken tractor that is enclosed. I tried to keep an eye on them as I feed and watered the horse but I came back to find that Basil my EE suddenly has a limp, she is about 3 weeks old and has been healthy so far, I can't see any outward signs of injury. What should I do?

I have a Silkie mix hen named Basil.
Feel down her legs. Check to see if she broke it. Was the ground level? She might of just sprained her leg. Also check her toes and under her feet. She could of stepped on a piece of glass, sharp piece of grass, or got a splinter. Also if she was flying around a lot she could of landed wrong or pulled a muscle. I would keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse, of if she starts having any other problems. Other than that,I think she should be ok. Just make certain that she is on soft, level, and easy to walk on ground until she gets better.

I had the same thing happen to one of my chicks. She was only three days old at the time and was the smallest chick out of thirteen. I think she may have gotten trampled by the the other chicks, not sure. I checked her leg thoroughly for any visible signs of an injury but couldn't find anything. I isolated her from the chicks except one that was close to her size so she wouldn't be alone and added nutri drench to her water to help her heal and it worked. It took about a week but it eventually healed.

Thanks for your replies, I checked her leg and it looked fine and this morning she was scratching and acting normal. I am so glad it went away as suddenly as it came, as she is my sweetest!
