Conclusion: well it’s been a day. All the chicks are united with mama. In the process of mucking about with the coop, my other mama with 3 week old chicks took her babies too far out and all the squealing chicks must have attracted a hawk. I saw it attempt to carry off a baby chick, was unable to clear the fence and dropped it but another chicken died of fright as a result. It just ran into the coop and died. I’m bummed that in the process of saving a chick that is probably a rooster, I lost a good egg laying hen.
The deer finally made it out, we cut the fence and in the process of driving it towards the hole it finally managed to jump high enough to get over. It damaged our fence a bit from all the places it hit, not to mention the giant hole we cut.
So overall a mixed bag of results.... oh and I think the chicks I rounded up, have lice. I saw what looks to be a translucent oval shape thing that looks like an egg on one of the chicks.
