Chick Treats?

Ok, hahah, I just wasn't sure if I should lead my chicks to cannibalism by feeding them the yolk, but I guess its ok to hahahha.

I read on another thread here that if the chicks (or chickens) snub yogurt, to dye it with a little food coloring. Some say red is best. I'm not sure why, perhaps the color is more eyecatching than the plain white.

I got mine used to yogurt by mixing it with a little feed at first. I would personally not do the red food coloring thing because of their propensity to peck bloody wounds.

Remember that if they eat worms or bugs of any sort, they need grit. River sand is free and also free of road salt, if you have access.

I have never given anything other than worms or small insects..they love to chase and catch them and its soooooo much fun to watch...this was on another thread.....you can consider this...I've never done it...........

Yesterday I tried the oatmeal, dry and ran through the food processor, then mixed with their feed. It was hand fed, so of course my girls loved it! Thanks for the idea, I learn something every time that I come here! Today I will try the boiled egg and see how they like it.

My hand has never felt so much LOVE before!!!!

I ground up some oatmeal for my 9 day old chicks and put some on my palm in the brooder and I had the whole dozen chicks all over my hand and arm peckin' me with LOVE!!! Well love for the oatmeal. Their lil beaks and feet feel so sweet on my hand. It was so dang cute. I'll have to let my hubby give it a try...he isn't on the chick bandwagon yet but I know he is going to be riding it to crazy chick town soon!!!!

Wont dry oatmeal swell up? What if they eat a ton of it like the chicken feed!?

I gave mine eggs this morning and I didnt even get the tray in..they were flying and hopping on top of it before it hit the ground! I guess eggs are a big hit here.

I've read in numerous places that dry oatmeal is okay.... so I assume it is.

It's so hard when you're new at the chicken thing to know what's right.
