Hi I have a 2 day old chick who has been suffering from dehydration we have got some water down him with a sprinkle of dehydration powder and he keeps gagging and trying to be sick I really need some help please reply! I have just lost one to the same cause and I don’t want to loose this one.

Can you try to dip it’s beak into a small bowl or saucer of plain water? Is the crop full and firm? Can you tell us if the chick was from a feed store, hatchery, or hatched at home? Does it have any pasty butt (stuck droppings?)

It was hatched at home

You're barking up the wrong tree.. That's only possible (at that age) if the humidity was too low or the hatch went too long.. otherwise it's not dehydration. Was hatch day 21?

Did the chick hatch on it's own or get helped out? Is it from your own flock?

If you have access to poultry Nutri drench.. that's the superior choice over egg yolk which requires digestion and nutri drench does NOT.

It's too early for pasty butt also.. but make sure the bumm is clear.

If a chick is aspirated (crackling breath sounds) when trying to administer water, etc.. it will not recover.. that's basically drowning. When administering anything to chicks this small.. is best to hold them in your hand with beak facing forefinger and drip just below the nostrils using the bend in your forefinger to help direct them together.. the chick will swallow when it rolls around into the mouth.

Hope that baby starts to thrive! :fl

sadly it is making crackling sounds. we lost his brother and we managed to save him but he is not too well his crop is full and firm.

the chick hatched very quickly one minute it wasnt there the next it was everything was fine. except when i moved him into the brooder it got very hot overnight and i found him collapsed on the floor. it is from my own flock.
