Oh dear.

I just went out to check for eggs and look in on everybody. Had some scraps to throw to the big chickens and they all filed out of the coop into the yard. Went around to where the baby chicks are separated and I was missing one chick. Looked and looked and finally found it over on the big chicken's side of the coop. I have no idea how it could have gotten there. Looking closer, this poor baby is bloody. That's what the big ones were doing inside the coop, attacking this baby!

I got it back to where the other babies are but I knew better than to just leave it with it's siblings because I think they would start pecking at it, too. I got it under a hard plastic milk crate and put food and water with it. I have some Blu-Kote but should I use it on the wounds? I can't tell if the chick is exhausted from the attack and just needs to be left alone for awhile and it might start eating on it's own, or what. I'm afraid that I need to keep it separated indefinitely until the wounds heal and if so, will the other chicks reject it once it is well enough to go back with them?

What should I do for it?

Please help!

Just clean the wound like you would a childs scraped knee. Warm water and soap, pat dry and apply antibiotic ointment (without pain medication) like neosporin. Keep her separate and let her recover from the exhaustion. Might take a couple of days. Make sure she is eating and drinking and watch the poop to make sure it stays normal.

You don't have to apply blu cote until you reintroduce her to the other little guys.
