In all the six years we've been raising chickens, I've never seen anything like this. My sister came to show me a newly hatched chick which was in her hand, and it... pooped. So she says. But it seemed to have pooped a dark-red pile of goo, which we can only guess is the unabsorbed egg sac?

I looked on another thread where someone had something similar to this happen and everyone said it was okay. But is this normal?

Thank you (and I know this is a gross thread

Thank you, the closest one I could find was because of Coccidiosis

But I believe those are for chickens. This could possibly be unabsorbed egg sac (?).

I don't know...mine aren't laying yet, and I am a newbie..could be? Maybe someone else will see your post and help out!

Here's photo, not very good, since it was taken w/ my webcam.

That is the intestines and they are not coming out of the rectum. It is coming out of the navel. I think the chick was squeezed a bit.....

It's "butt" would be up closer to your index finger. You need to put this chick down as it will suffer and die over the next few hours.
