Chick w/ unabsorbed yolk - something - help!?

I went out to the coop tonight and I have two broody moms. On top of finding my rooster hurt in the corner thinking he was DEAD, I see a dead chick in the box and the mom isn't sitting on it. I went to pick the chick up to get rid of it and it moved. It's inside under a heat lamp. Looks wet but it's dry and it's down is stiff/sticky.

It has what looks like a piece of chewing gum coming out of it's vent speckled with blood. It had straw stuck to it and it's really gummy.

What can I do with it? She's really trying to move around now that she's warmed up. Should I leave it alone? Do I need to remove it?

I wouldn't remove anything.

Keep it warm and see how it does. I don't know what it is from your description, but there is a possibility that if it isn't life threatening that it may dry and fall off. What you describe sounds more serious, but wait and see.

I'm not an expert and maybe someone else will step up with better advice, but it sounds like this:

Omphalitis

This bacterial disease affects the chicks during and after hatching, spreads navel infection characterized by inflamed skin in the navel area, soft, flabby and distended abdomen, vent pasting, foul smelling on carcass opening, due to unabsorbed yolk.

Thanks DrakeMaiden - I got on chat and MissPrissy helped too. It fell off! YAH! I don't know why the broody wasn't with her... I wanted to give her a fighting chance though.
