OK, I discovered that my chick waterer fits perfectly onto one of those large cans of sweet potatoes. It's not the largest can, but the short fat can (maybe 20oz?) - fatter than a regular 15oz size can of vegetables.
Anyway, my chick waterer fits securly on it, it's the perfect height for my almost 2-week-old chicks, and it keeps the poo and most of the bedding out of their water.
BTW, I have the kind of waterer with the narrow "drown-proof" resevoir. It might work well for other types, though.
