I weighed all of my chicks today and I was wondering if the weight of the chick could determine the sex? My RIR weighed 2.05 oz, EE 1.88, those are the only ones I remember. The sebrights weren't all the same weight. Two were about 1 oz and the others were a little less. Also, if any of you weighed your chicks, how much did they weigh? My chicks are 4 days old.

Hi, I'm sorry I have never weighed my chicks before.

Roosters tend to have thicker legs I think. And their combs come in faster and redder.

I am sorry I am not any help on the weight.

Sounds about right...I have never weighed ours before. For the kids market chickens for the fair, we list beginning weights as 0.

Thanks, I did know about the redder combs and thicker legs but thanks anyway

And these aren't market or show birds. I was just wondering since most hatchery sites post the weights of the adult birds. I thought maybe this would be a good way to tell.
Thanks for responding

We weighed broilers and cornish for 4-H but we never identified their gender so I don't know. We've been weighing Hopper and Baby (I thought it might make a neat still project for fair next year - a year in the life of a showbird or some such goofy thing, with pics and info). Also weighing the chicks we just received but they are only a week old so who knows? Plus, they're supposed to be pullets anyway.
