I have a 2 week old chick that has a bum bare of any fluff! I know that I might have caused it when I got rid of some stuck poop, and a few feathers came out. But now It's gotten worse! This is a pic of it after I washed it, and put some vaseline on the bare spot to sooth it.
Is there anything I need to do to get the fluff to come back? Thanks!

I'm not sure the fluff will grow back... Fluff is a temporary thing, so I don't think they make more of it. I'd watch for other chicks pecking at it, but other than that, I'd assume that it will fix itself when it gets it's real feathers...

Well, I found the problem. She can't poop properly, and her bum is so agitated that she keeps pecking at it! I have put vaseline around her vent, and sugar water in the waterer to get things moving. Anything else that I can do? I'm going to try epsom salt if she's not better by tomorrow/.

I also have a chick of similar age with a bum that looks like your photo, bare and with the top of the vent slightly protruded. The chick is not growing as fast as the rest and is a bit of a suck (will protest the loudest!) but otherwise seems happy, poops, eats, drinks, has a lot of energy. I would be interested to hear what you have found out about this and what has helped your little guy.

So, it seems that she was constipated, and had picked at her but to ease the pain. ( doesn't make much sense to me...) I ended up putting sugar in the water, and massaging her bum with warm water a few times until she started going by herself. She still has a bit of trouble, but her bum isn't swollen, and she's growing normally!

Thanks. My chicks vent has always seemed a bit protruded on the top since the day I got her, but seems to be pooping okay and is still around after three and a half weeks. The baldness seems more recent. Hopefully all is still well as there doesn't seem to be clear answers for this stuff! I'll keep an eye out for constipation though.

Ok, keep us updated on your little chick!
