chick with a scaly scalp?? Any ideas of how to treat? Have not seen others picking on it, not sure the cause/

How old is the chick?
Is it broody or brooder raised?

Looked it over for lice/mites?

Is it scaly like dried skin or scabby like it's been picked on - hard to tell.

it is 2 weeks old, yes in a brand new brooder with 9 chicks. I don't really seee mites on any of them but I will look more closely. I visit the chickens several times a day and have not noticed it being pecked on. Hmmm

For chicks that young, I would use a Permethrin based poultry dust.
You can find that in stored like Tractor Supply.

the farm I got the chicks form here suggested "cradle cap" hold warm water on its head to loosen the left over matting from the hatching process. It already looks better!
