Chick with almond/teardrop shaped eyelids?

Has anybody seen this before? I didn't notice until looking at pictures (and then confirmed in person), but the top chick has almond shaped eyes! I think she's blinking a bit in the picture so it's exasperated, but they're not the typical round. Eyeballs/pupils themselves look perfectly healthy in person though?

If both eyes are unconventionally shaped, it would point to a gene thing. (Hey that rhymes.) If it's only that left eye, it might be abnormal tissue development, like a callous, as when responding to an irritation or foreign body.

There was a thread a couple weeks ago where a chicken had a similar eye where tissue appeared to be growing up from under the eye and pushing up on the nictitating membrane. I'll see if I can stumble across it.

That chicken, by the way, didn't suffer any vision loss.
