Not sure but I think trimming the beak is like trimming nails. You can hurt them by taking off too much so go easy. Using a coarse emery board to smooth it and shape it might be helpful, It has been for me. My girl's beak doesn't line up perfectly, hence the possible vision problem, but she's putting on weight and laying regularly. Good luck!
