Chick (about 1 week) has been having diarrhea for a while and started screaming. We took her out of the brooder to give sugar water and cleaned her vent from pasty butt. She stumbles down, has poor balance and rolled over a few times. How can we keep this chick alive?

She screams when not being picked up, our brooder is a modified plastic tote with a heat lamp above (hopefully post image of that too) we have 7 chicks in total. The balance just started last night, I noticed it after the heat lamp fell on the lid.

We have a thermometer which we use and the tote is typically around 85-89F, it's the only one doing this. Our feeder is medicated with the same active ingredients in corrid so idk if it's cocci.

Update: its vent prolapsed and still won't stop screaming, I think its in pain when it poops now too
Can you please get some photos of the prolapse.

The brooder looks quite hot. If it's all 85-89F, then the chicks are likely too warm.

The chicks should only have one warm spot and the rest should be cool. The tote likely is holding in a lot of heat as well.

At a week old, Coccidiosis probably is not an issue, but it's always a good idea to have some Corid on hand to treat them if needed when they get older.

See that the chick is eating well and staying hydrated. She started screaming after the heat lamp fell on the top of the brooder? Could she have injured herself? Chicks will run into things when in a panic.

Since she's prolapsed, keep the exposed tissue coated with ointment or oil. Clean the tissue as needed very gently with warm water. Dry the chick well and recoat the exposed tissue with your ointment/oil of choice.

Do you provide grit for your chicks?
