So this little one is about five days old…The first few days I struggled with what to do…I tried hobbles and a separate brooder with better flooring for grip…Three days ago I built a harness, but the little bugger was able to jump out of it…Two days ago, I settled on this contraption…It’s deeper than the other harness, but the chick still got out…I noticed a very slight improvement in stability, so I kept going and started to hobble the legs once it’s in the harness so it can’t jump out and the legs hang a bit more normally…But the hip protrudes…Today this determined little chick has been able to stand in its own for short periods…It’s not able to move or get back up once it falls over, but it’s progress…
My other concern is nutrition…Tractor Supply is out of chick drench and this little things has been in nothing but water until yesterday, when it started accepting egg yolk water…It’s got plenty of energy, fusses when it wants to go back to its mates and seems to be in a pretty good mood most of the time…
I guess I’m wondering if I’m just working against the odds here…Can this chick live and go on to have a normal life?
