Chick with entire beak out, shell is gone but membrane is almost completely intact

Yes, it is a water dish. It is supposed to have a pint jar screwed onto the top, but I guess it is canning season because every local store has been sold out of the jars. I didn't realize it was a drowning hazard, I don't have any thing here but I can certainly get marbles or rocks. Should I remove the dish in the meantime?

Just keep an eye on them. They need water. Even with the water jar on them, most of us still use the marbles or rocks around the outside. I've seen too many people say they had chicks that ended up drowning in the water dish. I always recommend against any open water in with new born chicks.

If you have a tractor supply, they carry the plastic water "jar" that goes on it.

After you posted I googled the type of dish, and I see it does have a plastic jar that goes with it. My uncle gave it to me and told me to use a mason jar, I never even thought about checking to see if it was part of a set. Communication fail!

Tractor supply is quite a distance away, but I know Walmart sells fish tank supplies and I'm sure they have marbles. I'll pick some up this evening, I would hate to lose any of the babies.

You can use jars with them, if you have one that fits. I had a plastic, Mayo jar I think on one of my food ones that my sister gave me...lol The rest I bought both parts from TSC. If you have a dollar store near by they usually have both marbles and in the flower/craft section they have clean rocks and those glass rock things they use in vases.

Just wanted to update on the assisted chick. She is active, trying to walk around and making a ton of noise! The first couple times I checked on her, she appeared to have curling in the toes on 1 foot but it seems to be resolving itself. When I take her out of the incubator I will check on it but right now she is doing much better than I expected. Thank you so much for talking me through it.

That's great!

Last update, out of seven of the eggs we got five chicks. Chick is doing very well! Running and eating with the others. My daughter has named it Princess Fire Magic, I will be very disappointed if princess turns out to be a prince because I've gotten attached to this chick. :) She is the yellow one.
