I have a batch of Cornish rock broilers that are about a week old.
today I noticed the biggest one has a swelling on its head that feels like a fluid build up that gives it a puff top on its head and down side of its neck.
Other that that is acting normal and eating and drinking well. This is the only one like this.... and is a first for me
Should I cull it? Should I be concerned about the others and my other chickens?
these were bought about 5 days ago from TSC

Hi! Sorry about your chick. Is there a way you can separate it from the others and out from the red light to take clearer pictures?

Is it fluid or air? A ruptured air sac is not uncommon, and will cause air to accumulate under the skin, like a balloon. It can happen if they get knocked around or bang into someting. If the chick seems OK and is not having any trouble breathing, then it may resolve on it's own. If the chick is having trouble breathing or it's just getting bigger, then you can use a sterlized sewing needle to release the air. Once the pressure is released then the air sac has a chance to heal. Dab the skin where you want to prick with some antiseptic. Pinch the skin between your fingers and prick with the sterilized needle, just through the skin (hold the needle parallel to the bird so you are only going through the pinched skin). Once the air is released you can put a tiny dab of plain neosporin or plain triple antibiotic ointment on the prick spot. Sometimes it may have to be done again, if it refills with air.

Yes it feels like a balloon , air is a strong possibility
Maybe it got its head stuck in the feeder? They were all normal yesterday

It's not uncommon, especially in chicks.
Ok I will watch it and deflate if it progresses. Thank you
Injury is likely seeing how it was fine last night and puffed up this morning.
I just don’t want the rest to get sick if I missed something . Had chickens for years and this is a first for me lol
