This little one hatched yesterday after pipping on the wrong end and getting help with zipping. Her one foot is turned inword. I'm wondering if there is something I can do or will she learn to walk on it and be okay? Now she will tip over when moving around but, seems to be getting less tippy.

Here are a couple other pics that maybe will show it off better.

It looks like it has a slight spraddle leg. There is excelent info on this sight for this condition. Go to your search button and type in "Spraddle leg." You will find tons of help for this. Make sure you have the chick living on something where the legs can not slip. Pine chips or even paper towels will work. I would suggest paper towels for the time being. You don't want the condition to get worce. Keep us informed on your little chick and the treatment may take several weeks to get better. It helps to have someone else there to help you hold the chick while your place the band aids. I usually cut mine long ways. Check on the chick often because those little buggers are masters at getting the band aids off.

Now that I look at the pic again, the one leg does seem to turn in but the other one looks spraddled to me.

I have found in my experience that if a chick doesn't make it out of the shell on its on there is usually a problem. Not always but usually. Keep us informed. I would like to see if you can help the chick. How are the joints? Are they O.K.?

one of it's toes seems to be curling upwards? i hear if you have a problem with toes, you should make a little pair of booties for them. not sure how to do it or the details on it.

hopefully and expert will chime in for us

Most leg and neck problems in chicks are related to vitamin deficiencies- plus, using vitamins with chicks is a preventive technique that does not harm them if you get the dose right. You can also use baby vitamins (no extra iron). I'd give to the entire group...

I'd get them on shavings too (pine) for better foot support. Use paper towels around the waterer, which should be elevated. Feet grow better that way...

The pics do look different on the carpet. The poly-vi-sol- {no iron} sounds good to me. Just from what I can tell from the pics I think even if the leg doesn't correct itself your chick will be O.K., maybe walk with a little limp. Do keep my informed though. Hope it all works itself out. Prayers

The hens are getting vitamins in their water and these chicks just hatch the last two days. They do have vitamins in their water too.

chilling in muscadine--Thank you.

Your welcome. This chick hatching upside and being helped out there is usually a reason why. I would think this chick will need extra TLC. Besides the vitamins if I were you I would offer the chick some mashed scrambled eggs everday or some other treat to help it on its journey. I still think the chick has a good chance.

I had 2 last year that I had to help as they pipped at the wrong end. One ended up a roo and canned the other was a pullet I kept but, beyond the hatch problem they didn't have any issues. Sometimes Mother Nature just needs a hand. If I didn't help little ones arrive into the world when needed I would be broke due to loosing cows to calving issues. Sometimes, women need help delivering their babies. IMO, why would chicks be any different?
