Yesterday, I received a box of chicks from cackle hatchery, and when I opened it, one of the chicks had her foot caught under the heating pad/block in the middle of the box. When I took it off and set her down in the brooder, the leg was completely straight and splayed to the side. After half the day had gone by, she was able to hobble along with her toes bent under her foot. Today she is doing the same thing but a little bit more skillfully. So my question is, should I attempt to splint the leg? Is it broken, strained, or was the chick born like that in the first place? It doesn't seem to cause her pain when she walks, and she doesn't react when I stretch out her toes to the right position, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
