Hello, looking after my brothers livestock this weekend and have noticed one of their month old chicks has no feathers on the back of her neck and it's really sore looking...I haven't noticed her getting pecked (she's one of the bigger ones) but is it overgrooming and how should I treat it?)

Ok thank you - will try and get some anti-pecking lotion - does look really sore. They are in a small outdoor pen during the day, about 2ft x 1ft but go indoors at night. Not ideal but my brother wants to add them to his other 4 who are point of lay already so they need to grow a bit first before being introduced! The other 4 are free range today and keep coming over to inspect these raucous youngsters 😄

That’s not big enough for them. The pecking will get worse if they do not get more room.

Looking at the size of those birds, I think it's time to start integrating them into the other flock. Especially if the other flock has more room to run.

Ok sure - they are with some tiny Leghorn chicks etc but I will definitely suggest taking out the Light Sussex ones as they are big - even for only a month old! I do agree it's too small a space....if they were mine they'd have much more! I have just 2 chicks at home with an adoptive bantam mother who are living in chicken heaven and getting a picturebook chickhood....
I have put some lotion on the chicks neck now and will do all I can to improve its situation when my brother and sister in law are home again
