I just moved my chicks to the brooder. I had noticed yesterday that one of the chicks seemed to have an eye closed, but couldn't see much in the incubator. Now I can tell that it has one eye shut all the time.

It's a cute little chick! very spunky, chases my son's finger on the side of the brooder box, eating and drinking. in and out of the heat-lamp hot spot just like the rest. I really don't think it's sick.

Could it be a deformity?
Could it be glued closed with egg white (one of the other chicks has some hardened white or something on it's back and head)
Should I leave it alone or try to clean it?

I'll try to add a picture with my phone

Hmmm? I can't figure out how to get a picture posted from my phone

I don't have a phone with pictures in it so I can't help you there.

You might try wiping a warm damp cloth across the eye and see if it is just sealed with membrane or yolk. I've had this happen before and the cloth usually helps.

well that was an easy fix! can't believe i let the guy spend a whole day that way :/

Searching the forums I was worried he was deformed or sick.. he just needed his face washed :) I'm glad i asked!
