Chick with rasping breath (rales), diarrhea with blood

CONCERN: This doesn’t explain the rasping breathing. See original post.

Everyone’s water has been treated at the rate of 1.5 t/gal. It’s so freaking hot out there that I look like I’ve jumped in a lake. Ugh!!

I had to dump out the little duck pond, because it would be too hard to treat that water. I have a female duck sitting on eggs, and both male and female have been using that pool heavily in this heat. Is that going to pose a problem, too?

I’m very concerned because I put the chick back with the others and walked away. When I got back to the house, I suddenly wondered if I might be missing something respiratory. But I’m on the downhill side of Mononucleosis myself, and I’m too exhausted to do anything more at this moment. Except worry!

The poop you posted looked bloody to, she needs the Corid.
Chicks that have a coccidiosis overload will pant and can have respiratory distress. I would watch to see if she develops any other respiratory symptoms.

If it's really hot outside, if possible change the Corid water a couple of times a day, this will encourage them to drink if the water is cool.

Okay, thank you! I do feel a bit better! The chick’s rasping was better once she got acclimated to the air conditioned air in the house, so I’m going to hope that’s it!

Thoughts about the downside of emptying the duck pool with a sitting momma? I could try to set up a mister over in that area to cool things off, but the earth is so dry that it’s downright hydrophobic. I’m thinking that even misting might create small pockets of water the girls could drink, thus avoiding the Corid treated water.

NEW INFO:

I found a roundworm floating in the waterbowl (dead) of the Murderous Mommas, the chickens who occupied the space the babies are now in. Should I be treating the babies for roundworm?? If so, should I wait until this course of Corid is done, or do it simultaneously?

At least I think it's a roundworm. Here's the beast:

No, we have not had any rain lately. How the hell it got in the water dish, I do not know. Can they crawl back up through the crop and through the mouth???
