I have a little chick with splay leg who is about 1 or 2 weeks old and i was wondering if chicks can survive with splay leg without it being treated i just tried to splint her leg and it didn’t work at all if anything it just stressed her out I’ve tried both the bandaid and hair tie and it didn’t work and now she almost wants nothing to do with me i also took her to a vet and the vet didn’t even mention splinting her and i never got a chance to ask so I’ve been taking her out every day five or more times so she can eat and drink im just wondering if she can survive this without treatment if i help her get the necessary food and water she’s probably my favorite bird and I’m determined to get her to survive

I’m dealing with this too with a 3 week old chick. I did put the hair tie with a straw on it’s legs & she seems to be doing better. I’ve ordered vitamins that should be in any day because I read it could be a vitamin deficiency. How is your’s doing?

Can you post a picture of the chick standing? It might be something other than splay legs. It is necessary to treat splay legs right away, or the chick may become permanently disabled. They all have trouble walking with the hobble on at first, but they can get used to it. A chick chair may help with that for a few hours a day, and you can also help it stay upright yourself. I like this method of taping:
