Chick with stuff on tongue and mouth( think caked food.

You are such a kind person. Thank you. I’m tearing up. You care and you don’t even know me. It’s been a tough season and I’m such an animal person this is so hard. I’m doing all I can to help. I lost my favorite hen a few weeks ago to egg peritonitis. I tried everything to save her and couldn’t. I want this baby to pull through so bad.
:hugs I'm sorry that you lost one, hopefully the Vet can help solve this issue and this little girl will make it.

Please do let me know if you find out more and keep me posted on how she's getting along.

Hey there. I wanted to update you on daffodil and wondered if I might pick your mind on another chicken? Daffodil isn’t needing to be tube fed now and is gaining weight. She is able to eat on her own and doesn’t act like she doesn’t feel good in any way. Her tongue has continued to change through the process and now doesn’t have infection around it. It is brown. The vet think it was injury to the tongue. He said it actually may stay that color. But she doesn’t seem in pain and can eat.

I was hoping to ask you about one of my big girls. She has always been a big eater and her crop gets pretty big which I was thinking was normal. I will say this I’m new and learning and I think I was giving way to many treats. I will be changing that. They are on layer feed 17% and I have oyster shells and calcium in a different feeder. I was giving scratch and worms and I think to much so fixing that now. She is a piggy. Currently doesn’t show any signs of not feeling well. She eats and drinks. She is laying eggs. She just started laying 9/15. The last week her crops acting up. It was not fully emptying but isn’t massive in the morning like when she goes to bed. I gave her olive oil and isolated until it was empty but isolating stressed her pretty bad. It emptied fully after that. Thai week the last couple mornings again not big like during the day but wasn’t fully emptying. Someone mentioned pendulous crop to me and I’m freaking out bc it doesn’t seem to be something you can resolve. I considered sour crop but I really read so many different things it’s hard to know what to believe. I don’t smell anything foul. In the morning it may be like a round quarter size and when I massage it seems to go down some. It’s hard ish. In the day when it’s big after eating it’s not like. Rock and more
Squishy. Any ideas or suggestions would greatly be appreciated 😊❤️

I'm glad Daffodil is eating/drinking on her own now and doing much better.

The next girl, how lovely is she!

I'd check her crop each morning before she eats/drinks, if it's not emptying then treat as Sour Crop. I don't think it Pendulous at this point, usually you see that in much older birds when they have lost some elasticity of the crop.

Giving her coconut oil chunks along with massaging the crop can sometimes help. The article below will also help walk you through treatment.

Provide Grit (Crushed Granite) so foods can be processed properly.
I'd leave her with the flock and let her eat and drink normally. Separation is generally not needed unless she's getting picked on by the flock. Just pull her aside 1-2X a day and treat her.
