I've heard similar problems can't find the threads... Some of the things people are doing>> war
Water sit baths like for egg bound; mineral oil for digestive lubrication; yogurt for flora; a little gasoline at the vent

I didn't see any posts on what is really going on. Several people have had this problem. It seems like a build up blockage or infection of some sort. Take it's temperature. Some have tried antibiotics...but it's all shooting in the dark so far as I've seen.

The best guess so far seemed to be egg yolk peritonitis

what the problem with young ones is? Heard mention of necro something or other.... sounds Bad and i believe its associated with broilers usually

Don't think it is an egg issue....These chicks are too little for that. What?? They might be 8 weeks old at the most?? Could the other chicks be picking on this one?? I would separate it if you can. Then get some kind of ointment on his/her skin....blue kote or at least some type of antibiotic ointment (no -caine, nothing with pain relievers in it). Just regular neosporin or generic abx ointment. Could it be fungal?? any white patches?? like yeast infection?? Poor baby is Naked!!

The naked chick looks bigger than the others?? Could it be a cornishX?? If so, they lay around and pant a lot anyway....from what I understand. I wonder is it a CX that is getting its feather pulled out by the others?? Is it eating well??

This is all very interesting when I'm not personally involved...Don't let any of my Girls get sick (i get all kinds of upset)

I also found Ascites Syndrome in Mercks online...Those broilers have all kinds of issues

Its Fluid build up from essentially heart or blood pressure problems...none of this stuff seems easy to diagnose with out cutting the poor things open

Ascites is a possibility....that would cause the panting. It is hard to tell from the pics if it is actually swollen or just a naked big butt. A friend on the AZ thread just posted a picture of his cornishX with a naked butt from being picked on. BRB with a link for you.

Thank you guys for trying to help. My husbands pop is a vet and from as much as we could tell him over the phone he said it seemed best to put it out of its misery.

. I'm not sure what kind of chickens we have. But we bought them for eggs.
